The Welsh midfielder will be staying on Merseyside, thankfully.

Things have been worryingly quiet on the Women’s side of Liverpool, but we do have one of the most important pieces of business finalized.

The club announced on Tuesday that Welsh international Ceri Holland has signed a new contract with Liverpool, keeping her with the Reds for the foreseeable future. Women’s contracts are notoriously kept secret for some reason, so while pay is unknown, we do know that the contract extension is for another two years after her current contract was due to expire this month.

Holland joined Liverpool Women in January 2021, after spending time with the Manchester City development as well as the University of Kansas. To say that she has been instrumental in the Red Women’s success since then is quite the understatement. Holland has made herself the indispensable engine of the midfield under Matt Beard and Amber Whiteley’s tenures.

“It’s been an amazing four years. I’ve really, really enjoyed my time here,” Holland told the club website for the announcement.

“We’ve obviously had a lot of success but also I think there’s a lot more that we can give and a lot more to build on.

“I think that was a major part of me re-signing. I can see there’s potential here for us to grow as a group. I think we’ve got a really good set of girls and our squad has got a lot of talent. I’m excited and looking forward to the future.”

Holland has made 107 appearances on Merseyside across all competitions since joining the club, including helping Liverpool win promotion back to the Women’s Super League at the end of the 2021-22 season. She has also secured herself the team’s Players’ Player of the Year award in 2022-23.

Her contributions haven’t stopped there, as Holland has also been a feature of the Welsh Women’s National Team, securing a spot for this summer’s Women’s European Championship as well.

“I’m really excited. It was something that’s been going on in the background for a little bit now and [I’m] just happy to have it done,” Holland continued.

“I’m excited to move forward with this team and see where we can go.”
