Liverpool Women return from international break this weekend by facing Arsenal Women at Emirates, hoping to capitalize on the good momentum they were building before the break, jump-starting a busy December period before the WSL holiday break. Beata Olsson, who was named the November Player of the Month for her scoring streak, is confident that the women will be able to keep putting their pieces together.
“I think we turned it around a bit last month and we are building something now and we will continue to do so,” Olsson told Liverpoolfc.com.
“I think we have some really good players here and it will be a test now for us to see what we can do. We had a good last month so we know we are capable of putting in some good performances.
“We are not naive, we know we will have to work really hard because Arsenal will be a tough game. They will have their supporters behind them. But we also have great fans so we know they are behind us and we’ve got a lot to work for.
“We have got great spirit here and you see that every day you come into Melwood.
“For example, we came back from international duty on Thursday and it felt great, everyone is so excited for this upcoming period and I feel we have something special to build on.”
Olsson scored in the last four matches, including a hat trick against Sheffield United in the Women’s League Cup, and has been a major part of the results that the Women are building towards. It obviously hasn’t been the best start, with the women still lacking an actual win, but Olsson is optimistic that the win is coming.
“It takes a while to build up the connections and the relationships with everyone but I have started to find my way in the box and have got great assists from the likes of Lily [Woodham] and Ceri [Holland],” Olsson added.
“I think I have developed so much as a player since coming here and I have to say thank you to all the coaching staff here for helping me every day.
“I love it here, it’s great. This club is amazing and the players are amazing, it’s incredible and we want to continue to improve and do well.”
The Women face Arsenal on Sunday at 12pm BST/7am EST from Emirates Stadium.
