Former Super Eagles midfielder Duke Udi has said it would be unfair to sack the team’s head coach Jose Peseiro.
Udi also backed the Portuguese to lead the Super Eagles to a fourth Africa Cup of Nations title in Cote d’Ivoire next year.
Peseiro was widely criticised following the Super Eagles stuttering start to their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.
The West Africans earned just two points from their opening two games against the Likuena of Lesotho and Warriors of Zimbabwe.

Udi however believed that the Super Eagles can win the title in Cote d’Ivoire and also secure a place at the 2026 World Cup finals.
“It’s too early to sack a coach because he drew two matches. He has not lost,” Udi told BBC Sports Africa.
“We are still on course for both competitions (the World Cup and Nations Cup). In Ivory Coast, anything can happen.”

The Super Eagles are in Group A with Cote d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bissau.
They will open their campaign against Equatorial Guinea at the Alssanne Quattara Stadium, Ebimpe on January 14.
