Liverpool FC and Manchester City have locked horns on the pitch for domestic and continental trophies over the past decade, and it should perhaps come as no surprise that the competition is just as intense over the pitch too.
In the past couple of years in particular, Liverpool have made something of a habit of snatching up talented prospects out of Man City’s academy, often by looking to offer them a clearer pathway to minutes with the senior squad.
Earlier this year, defender and youth captain Lucas Alford joined from City to link-up with the club’s U15 side. Last season, centre back Lucas Clarke also made the switch from City’s academy and now plays for the Liverpool U18s.
And now, while the club doesn’t make a habit of formally announcing youth signings, 15 year-old goalkeeping prospect Alfie Dooley has confirmed on Instagram that he has also made the switch.
Congratulations to the lad on the move, and a hearty welcome to Alfie to the Liverpool FC family. I’m sure a few youth team watchers are be observing his young career with keen interest.
